One Day At A Time
Matthew 6:27, the words of our Lord, “Who of you being worried can add a single hour to his life?” NASB I have heard it said that worry is simply a lack of faith. I guess at the core of it, that statement is true, but I also believe that our faith must be strengthened. Jesus asks a question in Matthew 6:27, a very profound question. What he is asking is how being worried has worked out for you, and I believe the way we answer that question is important. This is the first step in us either walking by faith or being controlled by worry. Jesus is teaching us an important principle about faith, and that is living life one day at a time. Jesus later in the text would say, “Don’t worry about tomorrow, it will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34 One of the keys to not being controlled by worry is to focus on what God has for you to do today. What has God given me today to do that can make my life better? It might be something simple like spending time with Him in prayer. It might be something major like a new opportunity He has provided to improve something that is lacking in my life. This simple exercise of living life one day at a time may be the beginning of you moving from worry to faith. Yes, I believe that worry is a lack of faith, but we must have our faith built on the solid ground of our Lord Jesus Christ, and that is done one day at a time as we follow Him. Pastor Mike
